Awkwafina
Awkwafina has been described as an American singer and performer who made her name with witty rappers, which explored issues of race and sexuality with an edgy and humorous perspective. She then expanded her reach to Hollywood. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her very first musical exposure. She was a trumpet player. The musician also had the classical and jazz education later becoming a hip-hop teenager. As a student, she majored in journalism, and women's studies, and was learning Mandarin in Beijing for a short time. It wasn't until she began focusing in music until she finished her degree. Her song My Vag, a response track to the Mickey Avalon's My Dick gained viral popularity across the Internet in 2012. It would later be included on her first album Yellow Ranger released in 2014. Other hits on the internet that were viral include queef track, and the witty NYC Bitchethe hometown tour for $. This song is directly linked to Awkwafina's NYC, a 2015 travel guide. After she established herself as a performer and author, she was able to accept acting roles. As well as early shows like Girl Code and Tawk she has also appeared in films like Neighbors 2, Storks and Bad Rap. In 2018, she was able to land breakthrough performances in a variety of notable films, including Dude Ocean's 8, and Crazy Rich Asians. She released the EP, In Fina We Trust in June in the same year.
